Official Announcement
The Dire Dawa Administration Education Bureau, through its General Education Quality Assurance Directorate, has been implementing various measures to ensure education quality and accurately assess student competency levels.
While the annual Standard Exam was previously used solely for research and advisory purposes, a new direction has been established to better identify students' true academic levels and address assessment gaps observed in schools.
Therefore, we announce the following decisions regarding the 2018 Standard Exam for all government and private schools:
- Applicable Grades: The Standard Exam will be administered to students in Grades 5, 7, and 11.
- Result Handling: The exam results will be scored out of 40 points and counted as part of the school's Final Exam grade for the specified grades and subjects.
- Exam Preparation: Since the exam will be centrally prepared by the Education Bureau, schools are hereby notified not to prepare their own final exams for these grade levels and subjects.
- Preparation Reminder: Schools are strongly advised to provide necessary preliminary preparation and follow-up to ensure their students perform effectively in this centrally-administered exam.
The primary goal of this change is to make the assessment system consistent, transparent, and quality-assured, enabling accurate measurement of students' true knowledge levels. We call upon all education leaders, teachers, and stakeholders to contribute to its successful implementation.
